Message from the President-Fall 2018

Hello everyone,

I hope the school year is off to a good start. This transition often causes a great deal of stress on many families. The kids are experiencing new teachers, class-mates and classroom environments, while the parents are experiencing new IEP teams and law changes that are often hard to understand.

In an effort to help our families better understand the IEP process and language within that IEP, ASFV is hosting a Parent/Educator Workshop presented on January 21st by Katie Berg, CESA 1. Presentation information is inside.

ASFV continues to grow in membership!!! We have many events planned to bring our community together. There are social outings scheduled for all age groups, and continued support at our monthly parent support group meetings. ASFV is also holding an exclusive event at Barlow Planetarium. Some of the events have very specific information within their description. Please read carefully.

Once again the joint efforts of ASFV and the Xavier Hawks football team and boosters created a fantastic day for 68 kids and their families.

Thank you to all who volunteered and/or supported ASFV at our Octoberfest booth. We tried something different this year to increase our ability to connect with more families and had a great time. We concentrated our efforts to share information about our group, resources and events. It was a wonderful day.
Have a fantastic fall,

Diane Nackers
President of the Autism Society of the Fox Valley
